This current-decay control scheme produces less audible motor noise, higher step accuracy, and lower power dissipation. The transistor is essential to the A3967's simple implementation. Simply sending one pulse to the STEP input causes the motor to move one step (full, half, quarter, or eighth depending on two logic inputs). It is not necessary to programme phase-sequence tables, high-frequency control lines, or complex interfaces.
