It is intended to function as an Ethernet network interface for any SPI-equipped controller. The ENC28J60 Ethernet Breakout Board Module makes use of the new Microchip ENC28J60, a popular Ethernet Controller IC with a slew of features that can handle the majority of network protocol requirements. This Ethernet LAN module can be directly connected to the majority of microcontrollers. The network module communicates with the Arduino type board via the SPI protocol, making it ideal for projects involving the ARDUINO, PIC, AVR, or STM32. The ENC28J60 consists of seven major functional blocks: An SPI interface that serves as a communication channel between the host controller and the ENC28J60.
